Christian musicians unite for West

WEST—Christian musicians from around the country united for a project to help provide hope and healing for residents and responders in West, devastated by a fertilizer plant explosion April 17.

Recording artists Luke Brawner and Robbie Seay organized the collaborative project,

Songs For West, which includes 45 songs from a diverse lineup of artists. The album is available for free download via NoiseTrade, with donations benefiting the Baylor University West Relief Fund.

“The project has come together in a whirlwind, thanks to so many artists who wanted to make a difference,” Brawner said. “It’s been amazing to watch so many artists unite and offer their support for West.”

In addition to Seay, the album includes original songs from Baylor graduates Shaun Groves, Jillian Edwards and Laura Cooksey. 

The album also features songs from recording artists such as Chris August, Shane & Shane, Charlie Hall, Andrew Ripp, All Sons & Daughters, Derek Webb, Sandra McCracken and Andrew Osenga.

Robbie Seay“Like most people, I watched the news of the explosion in West and felt helpless,” Seay said. “The morning following the explosion, my friend Luke called, and we began to talk about how we might put some songs together to raise funds for their extensive relief efforts.

“With today’s technology, it’s amazing how quick you can put something like this together. Within hours, we had rounded up dozens of musician friends who also wanted to donate a song. I am thrilled to see these musicians jump at the chance to give their music away in exchange for donations to help provide assistance for West.

“As a songwriter, I believe in the power of song, and I believe it to be a God-given gift. In valleys and mountaintops, music unmistakably accompanies us. In this case, it seemed natural for music to help us to grieve together and to remind friends in West that they are not alone. We want to remind them that there is hope amidst rubble.”
