DALLAS—Five Colombian orphans kicked off the Christmas season with a new pair of shoes as part of their visit to the United States through the Angels from Abroad program.
Five Columbian children kick off the holidays with a new pair of shoes as a part of their visit to the United States through Dillon International’s Angels from Abroad program.The children toured the Buckner Center for Humanitarian Aid in east Dallas, where they participated in a variety of activities, and each received a new pair of shoes made available through Buckner’s Shoes for Orphan Souls project.
The orphans are spending three weeks in Texas through Angels from Abroad, a program of Buckner affiliated Dillon International that provides children a chance to learn about American culture, share their own culture and experience living with a host family.
It also helps raise awareness about the need to adopt older children and children who are part of a sibling group, said Denise Schoborg, director of Dillon International’s Colombia program.
“Every night in Colombia, approximately 60,000 children in the care of the country’s child protection system fall asleep uncertain of what the future holds for their lives. Sadly, adoption for most of these children will never come true in their birth country where the majority of adoptions involve young, healthy children,” Schoborg said.
“Dillon International has the opportunity to change children’s lives dramatically through adoption. Every child deserves the love of a family.”
During their stay with Dallas-area host families, the Angels—ranging in age from 8 to 15—were scheduled to experience the Christmas season American-style by attending holiday parades, parties, picnics, a Nutcracker performance and other activities.
