In addition, he has led worship for area churches including Park Cities Baptist Church. While performing a concert in India with government officials in attendance, Blalock didn’t miss a beat sharing the gospel.

“Most of the crowd was either Hindu or Muslim,” Blalock noted. “I played some pop songs, but the majority of the songs spoke about the resurrection of Jesus.

“There is severe poverty in India, and God has given me such a heart for the nations. I really have a heart not just for Judea and Samaria, but for the uttermost places, and God has opened doors for me to go and do ministry.”

Desiring to reach the nations for Christ, Blalock has received encouraging messages from people listening to his songs in various parts of the world.

“Through social media, I’ve heard from people all over the world who have been impacted by my music,” Blalock said. “I think the songs have been downloaded in 50 countries now. I’m primarily receiving messages from people in countries that I’ve visited. I’ve been to India three times, and I lived in Russia for a month working with orphanages. I’ve traveled to a handful of other places like Jordan, Canada and Germany.”

Growing up in Irving, Blalock attended Sherwood Park Baptist Church, where his father, Mike, served as minister of music. Mike Blalock now is pastor at Heart of Worship Baptist Church in Irving.

As a young child, Blalock began singing with his family in churches around the state.

“I’ve been singing since the age of 2, and I haven’t really known life without music,” he said. “It’s been a part of me since as long as I can remember.”

At a church summer camp during his teenage years, Blalock sensed God calling him into vocational ministry.

“When I was 15 years old, God really began to work on my heart about the best way to utilize my gifts for the kingdom, and I sensed that he was calling me to step into ministry,” Blalock said.

His desire to minister through music only increased during his college years at Dallas Baptist University. Since graduation, Blalock has returned to lead worship for chapel services. In addition, he has led worship for Dallas-area churches, including Park Cities Baptist.

Through the years, Blalock’s musical journey has taken him many places and allowed him to reach many people for Christ.

One of his most memorable experiences occurred while auditioning for the reality show “American Idol” in 2011.

“I really felt like my purpose for being there was fulfilled on my last day in Hollywood,” Blalock said. “I was able to minister to two guys who really had a hang up about believing in an all-loving God. Their sister had been physically and sexually abused, and they couldn’t understand this idea of a loving God actually being in power to do anything and allow this abuse. We talked about how the evil in the world isn’t because God created it. It’s because people have not obeyed the commands of God.

“I had the opportunity to pray with both of those guys, and they received Christ that night. I realized, ‘If this is the only reason that God put me on this path, then it was worth it.’

The moral of that story is to obey, even if it doesn’t make sense. I could not make sense of why I was supposed to be there, but I knew God was leading me down that road.”

By sharing songs and stories about his own life experiences, Blalock hopes to relate with audiences and connect them to Christ’s unfailing love.

His newest album, Timeline, offers songs about personal struggles, learning to surrender and Christ’s sacrifice on the cross.

During his travels, Blalock enjoys meeting people and discussing what God is doing in their lives.

“My favorite part of ministry is discipleship—specifically reaching out to people who are hurting or struggling with addictions,” Blalock said.

“When people are walking through difficult seasons of life and can’t seem to trace the hand of God, I love being able to walk with those who are hurting and point them to the heart of God—reminding them of God’s promises for them and his perfect will for their life. Letting them know that they are not alone and reminding them that God hasn’t forsaken them in their hour of darkness.

“As long as I have breath, I want to keep doing ministry. It’s been a pleasure to be able to do this and is such a part of who I am.”
