DEWEYVILLE—While Texas Baptist Men continue to provide disaster relief at several sites in East Texas, including Newton County, the Baptist General Convention of Texas has begun enlisting volunteers for long-term disaster recovery to help a church in Deweyville.

TBM disaster relief workers have donated more than 1,200 volunteer days in five areas of East Texas since parts of the region flooded in mid-March. So far, they have prepared 7,400 meals, distributed more than 7,300 boxes residents used to collect scattered possessions and completed more than 230 work requests, including dozens of mud-out jobs—tearing out damaged drywall and moving debris from homes before power-washing and disinfecting affected areas.

They made available mobile shower and laundry units, providing access to more than 670 showers and washing 940 loads of laundry.

TBM volunteers also distributed 92 Bibles, presented the gospel to about 50 people and recorded more than 670 ministry contacts.

Meanwhile, Texas Baptists’ disaster recovery office is mobilizing volunteers to assist Calvary Baptist Church in Deweyville with debris removal, clean-out and home repair and rebuilding. About 80 percent of the church members’ homes were flooded. Deweyville is located in Newton County, about 30 miles northeast of Beaumont.
