GRANBURY—LaDonna Lecoq arrived at Christian Women’s Job Corps seeking basic computer and job-readiness skills and to be with Christian women in a Christian environment.

She graduated with a renewed commitment to pursue a career in health care—and a scholarship award from Woman’s Missionary Union to help her start toward that goal.

“Being at CWJC was a wonderful experience, where I was surrounded by Christians who were a living testimony of God’s grace and greatness,” she said. “I am so grateful for the staff for their love, support and believing in me, and for my mentor, Linda Boysen, for her unwavering encouragement.”

Lecoq had been a registered nurse but let her license lapse when she found herself alone with a child to raise. Now that her daughter is grown, she plans to pursue courses in medical billing and coding at Weatherford College with the goal of re-entering the medical field.

“It is evident that she put raising her child as a priority,” said Becky Ellison, Texas WMU consultant for CWJC. “Now, LaDonna is ready to recommit her time and energy to continue a career in the medical field and start her educational journey to build a firm foundation for the future.”

Founded by national WMU in 1997, Christian Women’s Job Corps provides a Christian environment where women in need are equipped for life and employment. Each participant is paired with a mentor who guides, encourages and keeps her accountable.

Lecoq will receive $700 through the Faye Dove Scholarship Award, a scholarship established by WMU that will be granted annually to select CWJC graduates who have demonstrated perseverance in achieving personal goals and continuing education.

“It is evident that LaDonna has grown in her faith and her love for the Lord as a result of being in the CWJC program,” said Carol Seay, executive director of CWJC of Granbury. “Gaining a deeper self-respect has prompted her to return to a medical career, thus fulfilling one of her goals. She is a beautiful person with a heart to serve and help others.”
