An Act of Providence, the history of Houston Baptist University's first 50 years, compiled and written by Vice President Emeritus Don Looser, has been honored by the Texas Baptist Historical Society.

The insitutional history writing award will be presented during the annual meeting of the Baptist General Convention of Texas in Corpus Christi in November.

An Act of Providence traces the history of HBU from its inception and chronicles the story of God's blessing on institutional development.

After significant growth in its first 50 years, the university continues to implement a 12-year vision that encompasses the academic curriculum, faculty development, campus facilities, NCAA Division I athletic competition, student life and community service.

HBU will mark its next significant milestone, the 50th anniversary of its opening for classes, in September 2013.

Copies of An Act of Providence, published in 2010 to coincide with the 50th an-niversary of the charter of Houston Baptist College, can be purchased online at Amazon.com or by calling (281) 649-3258.
