San Marcos Baptist Academy's trustees have named John Garrison as president. He has been associate vice president and dean of students at Texas State University.

Garrison holds a bachelor of arts degree from McMurry University, an master of education degree from the University of North Texas, and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. He succeeds Vic Schmidt, who plans to retire July 1.
John and Carol Garrison have two grown children –Ryan of San Marcos and Mindy, who resides in College Station.
