AUSTIN—Texas Baptist Men disaster relief volunteers responded to multiple needs in the South Austin area after flooding affected more than 1,600 homes.
TBM workers provided childcare for families who visited a flood assistance center set up at a recreation center.
TBM disaster relief crews help residents clean out and repair flood damaged homes.At the center, TBM volunteers received more than 60 work-order requests from residents whose homes were damaged. Mud-out crews began removing damaged drywall and cleaning homes with high-pressure hoses and disinfectant.
Chaplains provided on-site spiritual counseling at the flood assistance center and in affected areas. A box crew provided cardboard moving boxes to residents who were retrieving their belongings from the disaster area.
TBM disaster relief also made a shower unit available for law enforcement officials.
TBM set up its disaster relief incident management center at Manchaca Baptist Church, and the church provided lodging at its facility for volunteers. An emergency food-service crew worked at the church to cook and serve meals for volunteers and local emergency personnel.
