As part of Texas Hope 2010, The Heights Baptist Church in Richardson is seeking to get 1,000 of its members plugged into consistent community service by 2010.

Richard Covington, the church’s minister of community and college ministries, said the congregation hopes 1,000 of its members will serve on a regular basis so they can build relationships with the people they serve. Through relationships, Covington said, the gospel can be shared and lives transformed.

“Task-oriented service opportunities are great, but relational service opportunities are where transformation takes place,” he said.

Service opportunities include mentoring children, regularly serving in a soup kitchen, building relationships with international college students and ministering to refugees.
