Baylor Health Care System’s board of trustees renamed the system’s Faith in Action Initiatives Fund to honor president and chief executive officer Joel Allison for his 20 years of service to Baylor.

Baylor Health Care names Faith in Action initiative for CEO. Baylor Health Care System’s board of trustees renamed the system’s Faith in Action Initiatives Fund to honor president and chief executive officer Joel Allison for his 20 years of service to Baylor. The Joel T. Allison Faith in Action Initiatives Fund will continue to support Baylor’s office of mission and ministry’s work to provide resources and medical volunteers to organizations in need locally and abroad. To date, Baylor’s Faith in Action Initiatives have benefited people in need in more than 30 countries with hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical supplies and equipment. In addition, its Sacred Vocation program enhances the spiritual roots of purpose and meaning for Baylor employees as they serve the needs of their patients and communities beyond Baylor. Faith in Action Initiatives also publishes daily inspiration articles for all Baylor employees and provides education, resources and networking to faith community health ministries. In addition, the board created the Joel T. Allison Faith in Action Award, which will be given annually to an employee who best exemplifies Allison’s commitment to Baylor’s mission.

North Texas Giving Day sets record. North Texas Giving Day 2013 raised more than $25.2 million in 17 hours, benefitting 1,351 nonprofits, including multiple Texas Baptist ministries and a variety of other faith-based organizations. Donations surpassed 2012 results by $10.8 million, and the number of donations through the DonorBridge website nearly doubled. Texas Baptist beneficiaries included Baptist Standard Publishing, the Baptist General Convention of Texas, Baylor Health Care System Foundation, Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing and Buckner International. Others included African Leadership and Reconciliation Ministries, Brother Bill’s Helping Hand, Cornerstone Assistance Network, Cornerstone Community Development Corporation, Denison Forum on Truth and Culture, Mission Arlington/Mission Metroplex and Victim Relief Ministries.

BCFS receives $5.6 million state grant. The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services awarded Baptist Child and Family Services a $5.6 million grant for its Texas Families: Together and Safe program. The five-year contract enables BCFS Health and Human Services to lead a community-based parenting program aimed at reconnecting, strengthening and empowering families to create positive environments for their children. Families with children ages 3 to17 are eligible to participate in the program, provided they do not have an open Child Protective Services case or a previously substantiated case of abuse or neglect.
