Texas Baptists to rebuild pastors’ homes. Texas Baptists have committed to rebuild 15 pastors’ homes in the Philippines that were destroyed by a typhoon. Each home can be rebuilt for about $5,000. Volunteers are needed June 6-14. Cost is $2,500 with a $300 Church2Church Partnership Scholarship Grant. That includes airfare, transportation, lodging and meals. For more information, click here

Former Garland youth minister sentenced to 12 years. Joshua Earls, former youth minister at Arapaho Road Baptist Church in Garland, was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison after being found guilty of exchanging sexually explicit text messages and photos with an underage girl from his church. Earls, 30, pleaded guilty to receipt of child pornography. He faces a lifetime of probation when he is released.

DBU meets challenge grant goal. Dallas Baptist University completed its $1 million challenge grant from the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation of Tulsa, Okla., to be used toward the construction of the $7.7 million Jim and Sally Nation Hall, which will house the Gary Cook School of Leadership. Jim and Sally Nation provided the lead gift for the building, pledging $2 million for the project. DBU raised another $2 million prior to the challenge grant by the Mabee Foundation last July. The university raised the remaining $2.7 million by January—six months before the foundation deadline for the $1 million challenge grant.

Baylor regents name Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium. Baylor University’s board of regents approved naming the university’s new $18.1 million on-campus track and field facility for Clyde Hart in recognition of his five decades of service as Baylor’s longest-tenured coach. Regents also approved $1.7 million for the design and construction of Elliston Chapel, a 3,000-square-foot structure that will accommodate small-group Bible study, worship and individual reflection. Funded with a lead gift from Molli and Gary Elliston of Dallas, the 100-seat chapel will be built next to Hallie Earle Hall on the East Village property at Third Street and Bagby Avenue. Construction on Elliston Chapel is expected to begin this spring and be completed by spring 2015.
