Four Texas Baptist schools honored for community service. Baylor University, Dallas Baptist University, East Texas Baptist University and Hardin-Simmons University were named to the 2014 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. DBU achieved additional recognition—included in the Honor Roll with Distinction list, one of only four Texas schools granted that notation.

The honor roll highlights the role colleges and universities play in solving community problems. The program recognizes higher education institutions that reflect the values of exemplary community service and achieve meaningful, measurable outcomes in the communities they serve. The Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal agency for volunteering and service, has administered the award since 2006 in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, as well as the American Council on Education, Campus Compact, and the Interfaith Youth Core.

HPU offers scholarships to police. Officers currently certified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement may receive scholarships to take criminal justice classes at Howard Payne University at no cost for tuition. The officer must be working toward his or her first bachelor’s degree, meet unconditional admission requirements, major in criminal justice and actively practicing in the field of law enforcement. The scholarship is available at the main HPU Brownwood campus as well as the school’s New Braunfels and El Paso extension centers.

Howard Payne, UMHB accreditation reaffirmed. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges reaffirmed accreditation for Howard Payne University and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor for the next 10 years. The reaffirmation of accreditation includes examination of all aspects of university operation, including administrative processes, academic programs, student life, library services, and physical and financial resources.
