Texas Tidbits: Wayland designated an All-Steinway School

Wayland Baptist University joined the ranks of 170 institutions around the world designated an All-Steinway School by Steinway & Sons. Receiving the certification marked the completion of a nearly $630,000 initiative led by Wayland’s School of Music. Wayland purchased 29 new pianos designed by Steinway & Sons for faculty studios, practice rooms and performance venues throughout the campus. The pianos include Steinway, Boston and Essex models. By completing the initiative, Wayland became the first Baptist university in Texas to earn the All-Steinway School distinction.

Alejandro named vice president of governance at Baylor. Baylor University President Ken Starr appointed Juan Alejandro Jr. vice president of governance and risk and chief compliance officer, effective immediately. He had been serving in an interim capacity since July. Juan Alejandro Jr.In this role on the president’s executive council, Alejandro manages and coordinates board of regents and university policies and procedures, and he ensures processes are in place to evaluate business and regulatory risks. As compliance officer, he ensures Baylor has the necessary policies in place to comply with the procedures, laws and regulations to which it is subject, including Title IX. Alejandro joined Baylor as director of internal audit and management analysis in June 1994 to direct a comprehensive program of internal auditing at the university. He previously served as director of internal audit at the University of Iowa and the University of Texas at San Antonio. He is a graduate of Texas State University, where he earned his undergraduate and master’s degrees. In 2000, he received his doctorate in education from Baylor in administration. He is licensed as a certified public accountant.
