In Touch: Easter at First Baptist in Georgetown

Hello, Texas Baptists. I spent Easter Sunday at First Baptist Church of Georgetown. What a beautiful morning of worship. First Baptist is in the midst of searching for a new pastor. My prayers are with them in this time, and I hope you will keep them in your prayers, as well.

I personally am very excited to have Jerry Carlisle join the Texas Baptist Missions Foundation as vice president. If you need a pulpit supply, he would serve you and your church well.

I had the privilege of visiting with Gov. Greg Abbott recently. It was a great conversation, and I look forward to the ways Texas Baptists, specifically the Christian Life Commission, will make a difference for the state through their work in Austin.

For the Baptist General Convention of Texas annual meeting this year, we are sponsoring an essay contest for high school students and a sermon contest for college and seminary students. Scholarships will be awarded to the winners. The essay topics are “What Makes a Baptist a Baptist” and “The Baptist Recipe.” Both topics deal with Baptist distinctives. The sermon topic is “Distinctively Baptist.” If you are interested, please contact Steve Vernon for guidelines and information.

The Texas Baptist Legacy Award Celebration will take place June 7 at Independence Baptist Church. I hope you will join us as we honor Jim Culp and Bernie Spooner this year. Click here to learn more.

The tournament is filling up fast, but there is still time for you to join us Monday, April 27, for a day of golf and fellowship. Not a golfer? You still can participate by taking part in the helicopter ball drop. Learn more by clicking here.

The stats are in for Beach Reach this year. God used 1,060 volunteers to give 27,396 car rides and serve 21,000 pancakes. There were 110 professions of faith and 53 baptisms. Praise the Lord.
