Hello, Texas Baptists! Holly Brook Baptist Church in Hawkins recently hosted a wonderful missions fair. I was grateful for the opportunity to be part of the event. I also spent Sunday morning, Sept. 28, at Gaston Oaks Baptist Church in Dallas. It was a blessing to worship with them.

First Baptist Church of College Station hosted me Oct. 5. Pastor Troy Allen is faithfully leading that congregation. It is a joy to do ministry alongside him and his church. I also had the opportunity to speak in the evening service at First Baptist Church of Mabank, where Ed Hale is the interim pastor. It was a privilege to be invited to both of these great churches.

Later, Kathleen and I attended the Texas Baptist Retirees’ Retreat at Inn of the Hills in Kerrville. We had a wonderful time with these dear friends and great leaders.

Conclave will be taking place soon. If you are a youth worker, I hope you are planning to attend. It will be a great week of networking and leadership training.

Online registration for the BGCT annual meeting still is going on. It’s quick and easy. Be ready with your BGCT Church Identification Number.

Mark Saturday, Nov. 15, on your calendar. The Country Church Leadership Summit will take place from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Truett Seminary. Entry and lunch are free of charge. For more information, contact Charles Higgs, director of western heritage ministry.

texas baptist voices right120Thanks to all who helped support North Texas Giving Day. We raised $45,485 on Sept. 18 for the new University of North Texas Baptist Student Ministries building, as well as construction of an outdoor classroom at George W. Truett Elementary School in Dallas. With our coordinated social media message, we reached more than 51,000 people with the charge to participate.

Moreover, the amount raised will grow even larger with the addition of “bonus funds” from the Communities Foundation of Texas (a percentage-match program), a $1,000 prize and a $10,000 undesignated gift-matching challenge. What an incredible blessing! We will have the grand total to announce in early November, so be sure to check www.texasbaptists.org and our social media platforms for updates around that time.
