Letters: The lack of civility

Paralysis of incivility

The 50th anniversary of the Kennedy assassination in Dallas has been all over our TV this week.

You posted a very thoughtful article on the backlash that hit Dallas after his death.  I agree with your listing of the factors that were present in the nation that day.

The real problem today is the lack of civility is far worse and the divide in government is paralyzing the whole country. The talk around the table of even our weekly church prayer breakfast often sounds like conversations in Richmond, Va., on the eve of the Civil War. Talk of states’ rights and separation from the union are foolishness.

With the anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, people need to be reminded the union cannot be broken and the price paid to preserve it.

It is time the words and music of the Reformers return to prominence. There is a movement in the land to do just that, not only that but expositional preaching as well.

The word of God will do the work of God—not three points, a prayer and a promise, and tack on an invitation for good measure.
