Giving and receiving

The minute Katherine walked through the door, I knew I was going to love her. She walked in with the biggest smile on her face and was so excited to be here. And she carried the cutest purse. I kept making comments about how cute I thought it was, and I even went to get supervisor for her to see.

As the night went on, we were all working on getting dinner together. Ms. Debra remembered we had a donated computer, and she asked Katherine if she needed a computer. She knew Katherine had recently started to attend college, and she wanted to make sure that she had a computer for her school work. Katherine immediately started to cry. She fell to her knees and asked my supervisor, "Who told you my computer just crashed?"

God is so good. My supervisor said that no one has ever donated something like that before, and she always tells me that if we need it, God will provide it.

The next morning when I went to the kitchen for breakfast, the other live-in volunteer told me I had received something. I was really confused because I knew that the mail hadn't come yet since it was only 6:45 am. She picked up Katherine's purse and handed it to me. I started to tear up, and the other volunteer told me Katherine had left it for me because I said I had loved it. I can imagine how much she is struggling. Despite this, she graciously gave her purse to me just because I said I liked it. She definitely blessed me, and she reminded me that things are just things. I said I liked it, and she gave it to me. Isn't that how we should be living as Christians? It’s such a great reminder.
