David Gushee is the Distinguished University Professor of Christian Ethics and director of the Center for Theology and Public Life at Mercer University in Georgia and interim pastor of First Baptist Church in Decatur, Ga. He is the author or editor of 21 books and is president-elect of the American Academy of Religion and president of the Society of Christian Ethics.
