Hello, Texas Baptists! As I write this column, our Baptist General Convention of Texas annual meeting in Corpus Christi is coming to a close. It has been a great few days, and I thank everyone who attended for taking the time and making the effort to come and celebrate our work together. I especially want to thank our Education/Discipleship Center for planning and preparing this year's convention. This center is led by Chris Liebrum, and they really did a fantastic job highlighting who we are and what we are doing.

Now, I must confess I did miss the first day of the convention due to a sudden illness. However, our BGCT staff stepped up and carried on, and I'm grateful for each of them, particularly our associate executive director, Steve Vernon, for giving my report for me. Well done! And, to my wife, Kathleen, a big thanks for representing us at a couple of events we were scheduled to host. So proud of her!

I do want to thank Ronny Marriott, pastor of First Baptist Church in Corpus Christi (www.fbc-corpus christi.org) for allowing me the privilege of preaching there on the Sunday prior to the convention. They now have two worship services and a thriving ministry in many other ways. I was blessed by being there.

On a personal note, let me report that Kathleen and I now have moved into our home in Dallas, and we are slowly settling things into place.

Kathleen and I did have the opportunity to enjoy some of the festivities at Baylor University (www.baylor.edu) Homecoming recently. It was good to see family and friends. And congratulations to Ken Hall, former president of Buckner International, for accepting the position as senior vice president for university development at Baylor. He will serve the university well.

Finally, please put July 14-17, 2013, on your calendar. Those are the dates of our next annual meeting in San Antonio. It will be like no other convention we have ever had. You don't want to miss it. Blessings to you all. More next time.
