In Touch: Grateful for our grandchild

Hello, Texas Baptists! I hope you had a blessed Thanksgiving with much to be thankful for. I am especially grateful this season, because of the birth of Anne Marie Hardage, Kathleen’s and my first grandchild. She was born at Baylor Hospital Nov. 29. Thanks to all of the doctors and nurses who helped make that day so special for our family.

hardage david130David HardageI was blessed to attend the 2013 Russell H. Perry Free Enterprise Award banquet hosted by Dallas Baptist University Nov. 25. Bob Buford, founder of Halftime and previous CEO of Buford Television, was the deserving recipient. This dinner has raised more than $4 million in scholarships for about 1,800 DBU students in the past 25 years.

I had the privilege of worshipping at Gospel Light Eritrean Baptist Church in Dallas Dec. 1. Thanks to Pastor Solomon Beraki and his congregation for the wonderful Sunday morning.

BGCT Day at Houston Baptist University took place Dec. 4. Steve Vernon, associate executive director; Bill Tillman, director of theological education; and I were able to be part of that day. We were grateful to meet so many brilliant faculty members and students. Thanks to President Robert Sloan for his time and hospitality.

Please mark your calendars for Nov. 16-18, 2014, for the next Baptist General Convention of Texas annual meeting in Waco. The theme for next year is “Live the Difference.” Join with us as we explore what it means for Christians to walk as Christ walked (1 John 2:6).

If you are in the area, I hope you will drop by your Baptist Building and see the wonderful Christmas decorations. We are ready for Christmas here!

David Hardage is executive director of the Baptist General Convention of Texas Executive Board.
