Hello, Texas Baptists! It is an honor to serve with you in this role, and I thank you for your prayers and words of encouragement. Please join me in praying that 2014 will be a great year for our Baptist General Convention of Texas family.

It was a real privilege to be a part of the Men’s Conference at Miori Lane Baptist Church in Victoria. Pastor Mike Garrett is doing a good work there, and his faithfulness to the Lord and the church is inspiring. Well done, good and faithful servant.

hardage david130David HardageOn Sunday, Jan. 19, I was so honored to fill the pulpit of First Baptist Church of Stephenville, where Ben Macklin serves as pastor. There is a real revival under way at First Baptist, and it was exciting to see so many students from Tarleton State University in attendance on Sunday morning. Please pray for the pastor, his family, the church staff and the First Baptist family as they continue to pursue victory for the Lord.

Several from your Texas Baptist staff, myself included, participated in an event here in Dallas called Greater Dallas Movement Day. Leaders from across the community came together at the Dallas Convention Center to listen, learn and share about how to improve the city from all aspects, but to do so with a spiritual foundation.

Thanks to Pastor Chris Irving for allowing me the joy of preaching at First Baptist Church  in Gonzales. This is such a strong, healthy and historic church. Kathleen and I enjoyed a wonderful day there, and I’m excited about the plans the Lord has for this church.

Our Texas Baptist Student Ministry is seeking and praying for almost 500 college students to serve as GoNow missionaries and campus interns for 2014. Your Baptist Building staff has begun praying God would raise up these students for this work. I’m asking you to join us in that prayer. Many of our future Baptist leaders will come from the BSM and, particularly, these special service opportunities.

Finally, we have begun having chapel in your Baptist Building every Monday morning from 9 to 9:30. You are invited to visit sometime if you are in the area. Most Mondays, when I’m in town, I lead these and would be delighted to welcome you as a guest.

More next time.

David Hardage is executive director of the Baptist General Convention of Texas Executive Board.
