Cuba: Allowing the Spirit to speak

I've had a blast living among the Cuban people. They are really fun to be around, and they want their families to know Christ.

To them, the church is their family. We've had the opportunity to help with a week focused on outreach to youth, a week centered on children and two days devoted to women. The whole church attends every week and every event, even if it is focused on an age group other than their own. Everyone is young at heart. They all want to be a part of the learning experience.

In the mornings and through the day, the pastor has taken us to visit many church members and people who are still figuring out their faith. He brings us and asks us to share something from our lives and the Bible to them to encourage them. It has been amazing feel the Holy Spirit speak through Eunice and me. The Spirit knows exactly what they need to hear, even if we don't know much about them.

One time, we went to visit a mother of Jaitzel, a young guy who is new in the faith. I think she practices witchcraft based on the sign on her doorway, but no one told us for sure. The pastor left us there so she could open up to us and wouldn't feel pressured by his presence.

After getting to know her, I asked her if she had ever heard about Jesus and if she knew the story. She said she kind of knew but wasn't sure. So, she agreed to listen to the Good News. I knew it was the Spirit talking to me, giving me the right words she could understand. She seemed very receptive to it, even if she wasn't quite ready to make a decision for Christ. We asked her if we gave her a Bible if she would read it, and she said she would. So, the next day the pastor brought her a Bible.

It was one of my favorite experiences in Cuba, because I know the Lord is pursuing her heart, her family and she got to hear the good news and is reading her Bible. I know the Enemy doesn't want to let go of her, but God has already won.

After we left her house, her son fell while he was working and hurt his foot badly. He was taken in an ambulance to the hospital. Jaitzel says he was praying the whole time. Two days later, he was back on his feet.

Please pray for this family—for God to bring them freedom and not to get discouraged.
