Dallas: A whole new world

During the last few weeks of preparation, people have told me working at a junior college is going to be different. “Two-year colleges are not the same.” “Ministry is going to be like nothing you have done before,” they said. “Expect a challenge.” Well, everyone was right.

However, as I met with students and talked to them about their experience with the Baptist Student Ministry, the past, what worked and what didn’t, I realized I might have played what everyone was saying a little too loosely.

What I miss

There were moments when I missed familiarity. I miss my BSM family and being a part of the environment at Midwestern State University. I am proud to have graduated from MSU but even prouder to have been a member of the MSU BSM.

Now, as I have spent time in prayer and meditating on the living word, God has turned these feelings into an even more powerful reason why I am here serving at Mountain View College. I am in a whole new world working with a junior college and being in charge of this ministry. I know God has been planning this and working on me and at Mountain View preparing for this next year.

What I want for students

As I have reflected in the past, I have realized what I want for the students at Mountain View College BSM. I want my students to know Christ on a much more personal level. I want them to create an environment that is worthy of God—one they will miss when they graduate and desire to go to or create for themselves as they move on to another school or the workforce.

I want the students to love sharing their faith. These are things that I learned and came to love during my time at MSU. Now it’s time to pass these passions and lessons to other. What good is it that I learn these things and don’t share them with others? God has placed three key elements on my heart for the BSM at MVC—build community, serve others, and share faith.
