Dallas: Never give up

It is so easy for us to keep doing things when everything seems to be going so well—when people are attending your meetings, are open to talking about Christ and are coming to know Christ. But what about those times when we are not seeing results?

It says, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” We keep going and doing good. We do not stop but persevere. We don’t turn away but keep our eyes on Christ. We do not give up.

One of the hardest things for us is avoid comparing ourselves to others. It can be hard not to compare our ministry to other collegiate ministries. However, that is not what God has called us to. He has called us to righteousness and holiness. He has called us to expand his kingdom. I have learned to cling to this Scripture as a source of comfort and encouragement. It reminds me to keep going, even if it doesn’t seem like things are going great, because they are going how the Lord would have them. The work is his, and God has blessed me and countless others to come alongside him and be a part of what he is doing.

The weeks leading up to the first week of school were long, hard and a little uneasy. I was seeking what the Lord wanted me to be doing. He humbled me and drew me closer to him in prayer. Then when school started, it was like I didn’t have time for anything. I have been blessed with some young women who decided to join me for discipleship/evangelism training Tuesday afternoons and Bible study Tuesday nights.

Not even an hour later, the student life coordinator on campus told about a block party for all the organizations that would be taking place the next Wednesday. Of course, I jumped at the opportunity to advertise to the students that Mountain View College had a BSM. During the block party, we were able to distribute 250 bottles of water given to us by the Texas Baptist Men in Dallas, which was a huge blessing and a great way to open conversation. We had meaningful conversations people and even got some contact information so that these conversations could continue

As I was writing this, I had to take a break to attend a lunch event where various organizations spoke about what they are doing. After the event, I sat back at my table to finish writing when a student came to sit at my table.

We began talking, and he asked about my BSM shirt and what it meant. So, we started talking about God. I asked him, “Who is Jesus to you?” He replied by saying: “I don’t know. I am researching that.” So I asked if I could share who I believe Jesus is, and he said yes. I used the illustration of Jesus as the bridge between a holy God and sinful humanity.

At the end, I asked what he thought. He said that this was true. It was what he thought, but it had never been explained that way to him. He prayed to God, confessing Jesus as Lord of his live for the first time. God is good. That is why we do not grow weary in doing good. This is why we do not give up.
