Delaware: It’s a small world after all

Delaware is approximately 1,640 miles from Texas, 7,266 miles from China, 7,976 miles from Taiwan and 964 miles from the Bahamas, according to Google. However, it all seemed so much closer not long ago. Three students have a closer connection to our team than we ever thought possible.

One of our teammates is a student at Midwestern State University. She told us one of the international students from the Bahamas who attends MSU would be in Newark, Delaware, for the summer completing his internship. They were able to connect. Since then, we have been able to build relationships, study the Bible and discuss the gospel with him. We have been given a unique opportunity to continue to build on the work from Midwestern, which in turn will be continued by them in the fall.

Another of our teammates met a student from Taiwan around four weeks ago. About a week later, I finally was able to meet him. As it turns out, this student is from the same city where I spent a few days for training. We were able to connect from the pictures I showed him and famous areas of his city. I still am in contact with the person who led the training and lives in that city. So, with his help, we were able to share the gospel in ways that our friend can connect with most, rather than spend a few weeks trying to find the best way to speak truth into his life.

A couple of weeks ago, we went on a trip to Longwood Gardens. During the car ride, I was talking with the student sitting next to me. After he found out I was from Texas, he said he was going to be attending the University of Texas at Arlington in the fall. I was able to connect him with another teammate who will be starting his senior year at UTA. I am excited to see what the Lord will do through this connection.

The world is such a large place, but some days it feels so small. As the Lord orchestrates our steps, God shows that he has sent us exactly where he wants us for his purpose.

Jenifer Wilkes, a student at Tarleton State University, is serving with Go Now Missions on an international student ministry team in Newark, Delaware.
