Denton: God moves in lives of student leaders

Last weekend, we held our leadership retreat at the University of North Texas Baptist Student Ministry. We spent two days discussing what the BSM stands for and how the different ministries could actively show Christ on UNT’s campus.

Our student leaders for this semester are so refreshing. They have a desire to share the gospel and make Jesus Christ known. Not only do they have this desire, but they actually sat down in different ministry teams and scheduled times to make it happen.

The international ministry team set a goal to have 10 students signed up by Friday to be conversation partners. The evangelism team is having spiritual conversations on campus every Friday at 1p.m. The “free lunch” team is choosing speakers and videos they hope will open doors to conversations that could lead to people coming to know the Lord. These are just a few examples of how the Holy Spirit moved at our retreat.

I left the retreat really encouraged. Often it is hard for me to not compare our BSM to others in the state. When I hear about great movements of God on different campuses, it is hard not to doubt or question why God is not moving on our campus. However, I have learned God is in control, and when God moves, he will move in power. We just have to act in obedience to his calling.

Last semester, we focused a lot on the maturing and discipleship of our student leaders. We felt the guidance of the Lord in that area and witnessed his favor as our students grew in dramatic ways.

Many chains were broken. Now, I believe the Lord is about to show his favor on the University of North Texas through these student leaders. Please pray for a revival at UNT. Pray that the students will have boldness and that people will come to know Christ.
