Denton: Gospel multiplication at UNT

Recently, I had the privilege of baptizing a student who I meet with weekly in discipleship. Sarah is a sweet, beautiful girl who loves the Lord and serves as a student leader here at the UNT BSM.

Lauren McKeeWhen I first met Sarah, I quickly realized she had a heart for her friends to come to know her Father, but she never had been taught how to make that happen. So each week, we began to meet, look at Scripture and talk through ways to be intentional with friends.

I love Sarah, and because of that I started sharing my life with her. I began to teach her how to read and study the Scripture intently, as well show her she could be meeting with someone and start sharing her love for the Lord and her life with her friend.

Last semester, I watched as the Lord broke down chains and fears in Sarah’s life. Sarah is shy, quiet and would seem to most to be an introvert. Although she is all of these things, she amazes me at how fearless and clearly she can share the gospel with her friend. I would dare to say that she one of the best evangelists I have met, but she has no idea she is this. She simply loves Jesus and wants her friends to know Jesus.

Believer’s baptism

Through some conversations I had with Sarah and that she had with leaders at her church, it was determined she should follow through in believer’s baptism. When she told me, I was delighted to watch her take this step in obedience to the Father. Then she asked me if I would baptize her. I was overwhelmed with excitement.

I had never baptized someone and was honored to take part in the display of the gospel in this way.

Then she told me she would also be baptizing her friend, Martha.

Martha and Sarah have been meeting weekly in discipleship since October last year. They meet every Saturday. In my times with Sarah, she described how she was walking her friend through how to have an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. Once again, I was astonished at the gifts the Lord had placed in Sarah and in her humble attitude. Sarah had no idea. Sarah just thought she was being obedient to what I had showed her in Scripture.  Sarah loved Jesus and loved her friend.

Gospel multiplication

So on Feb. 16, I watched first-hand gospel multiplication take place. The Lord blessed me with a sweet relationship with Sarah, who I got to baptize, and then turned around and watched her baptize Martha.

In our next discipleship time, Sarah told me she wanted to start discipleship with a friend who did not know the Lord. We began to walk through how to study the Bible with a nonbeliever. Martha will start meeting with her little in the Christian sorority she is a part of on campus. And I get to watch the gospel multiplication continue through these girls. I could not be more proud to a part of the gospel in this way.
