Istabrak was completely distressed because she was paying $25 a day for a ride to work. Since she brought the problem to our attention, the employment and transportation team came together to find a solution to help her.
While the rest of my co-workers were busy figuring out the logistics, I got the opportunity to just sit and talk with Istabrak. Since we are about the same age, we had a lot in common and hit it off instantly.
After we found a temporary solution to her problem, we all were ready to go home. In order for Istabrak to get home, she normally would have had to call the man who was charging her a ridiculous amount. Instead, I offered to take her home. On the way home, we had the opportunity to talk about our religions, and it was great to get to explain to her about what I believe and why I believe Jesus is the only true Savior.
When we pulled up to her apartment, she invited me in to relax and meet her family. Her and her family’s story is powerful and tear jerking. When I gave her my phone number and e-mail address, her face lit up and she exclaimed, “I have friends!”
While she did not throw away all her beliefs and follow Jesus that day, it was an awesome way to open doors and build relationships with a sweet girl who needs friends and people to love on her.
