The past few weeks have been some of the most trying times of my life. They have shown me my strengths as a team member and a lot of my weaknesses, as well. They allowed me to face fears—to fail miserably sometimes and overcome them other times.
Steven Scallion displays his balloon-twisting abilities.The vast majority of my time is spent rehearsing with the creative arts team. We spend almost 14 out of 24 hours a day together. Thankfully, all the team members are really great people, and we are learning to work together in unity more and more each day.
Our first performance went over very well. There was a lot of good crowd participation. Every week, we perform six sets of songs on Friday and three sets on Saturday. Each set is about 30 minutes long, and we get 30 minutes between each set to chat with the audiences.
The venues where we perform are at the largest McDonald’s in the world (It’s crazy big!) and two amusement parks—Fun Spot Orlando and Fun Spot Kissimmee.
While preparing for performances, we also helped at Kids Club, our hotel ministry, where two children already have accepted the Lord. A teammate and myself have also made time to “master” the art of balloon twisting as a way to spark up spiritual conversations with kids and family between our sets.
That’s the most important part of our mission trip—talking with our audience and sharing Christ’s love. It’s not about singing or getting the dance moves rights. It’s about making Christ known in Orlando.
