Preparing my heart

God, how can I help others if I, myself, am broken?

These past four weeks as I have been out of school, God has taught me so much being here at home. I have had some hard times being so far away from my friends at school and then losing some along the way. The beginning of this summer has not been easy for me at all.Knowing that in July, I will be serving God, I owe it to the people of Alaska to get my heart right. So, I prayed and prayed and prayed for God to heal my heart and my anxious thoughts. And he has.

One of our key Scripture passages for Go Now is Ephesians 6:10-12: “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

Reading these verses, I realize that I am worried about stuff I shouldn’t be, because my fight is not against people. It is against something much greater. We are called to be warriors of Christ. So, I am preparing my heart. I’m preparing for battle.

Katie Sparks, a student at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, will serve this summer as an Impact Student Missions team in Alaska through Go Now Missions.
