Uganda: Blessed to share the gospel

This past week I had the privilege of praying with one of the staff members I am working alongside through Go Now Missions. She told us during our evening devotions on Sunday her mother was gravely ill—sick to the point of being unable to talk—and she wanted for us to pray for her. We all prayed together for healing.

I sat down with her and before we prayed, I asked her if her Mother was a Christian. She said “no.” So, I began to pray for healing, and I prayed for her salvation.

When I left, my friend was comforted and wasn’t so distressed. The next morning, she said she had talked to a neighbor who said that the one main problem was that her mother didn’t have much food.

God calls us to give to those who are hungry and to not turn away from those in need, and I couldn’t leave a person to be hungry when God has blessed me abundantly. So, I sent money with my friend’s brother, and he purchased food for her mother. My friend came back that evening thanking me over and over again for being a blessing. I reminded her it wasn’t me, but it was the love of Christ.

I spoke to her about her need for salvation, and she wants you to come see her, share gospel with her and she wants you to lead in how to become a Christian. She wants to see the one who provided when hope was gone, the one who brought life to her.”

So, I traveled with her and was privileged to share the gospel with her mother and to lead her to Christ. She longs to learn more about Jesus. There is a need for churches in the villages, and there is a need for Bibles. My friend said that there are not many churches, and bibles are hard to come by. A Bible in the Luganda language costs around $14 in U.S. currency or 35,000 shillings, the currency used here. The people who are blessed with having jobs make around 100 to 200 shillings a month. I pray that more people would be faithful in following the Great Commission.
