Columns from BGCT Leaders

The primary purpose of “Texas Baptist Voices” is simple: We hope to strengthen the bonds that unite Texas Baptists.

These columns enable leaders to communicate with the members of their affinity groups. This will help members know more about the work and ministry of their group. These columns also enable Texas Baptists to learn more about the affinity groups, the work they do and the issues important to them. By bringing them into the Standard and onto our website, it will help us all learn more about the overall scope of the BGCT and its myriad churches and ministries.

“Texas Baptist Voices” columns are included each week in the Baptist Standard. Subscribe for just $10 per year to have the Standard delivered to your email.

Support the Baptist Standard

Your donation makes it possible for us to tell compelling stories and provide powerful resources that make a difference in people’s lives. Baptist Standard Publishing informs, inspires, equips and empowers people to follow Christ and expand the kingdom of God through our award-winning publications.

Gifts from donors like you make up a vital portion of our budget. Subscription fees and advertising revenue comprise only part of what it takes to produce our valuable publications. We do not receive Cooperative Program funds from the Baptist General Convention of Texas, and we’re the only Baptist news organization not subsidized by a sponsoring convention. So, we can’t do this without you.

To make a tax-deductible donation online click here or keep reading for more information about how you can support our ministry. If you would like to support us by check, please mail to: Baptist Standard Publishing, PO Box 259019, Plano TX 75025. To set up monthly or quarterly recurring donations, please contact Kayla Peltoma at (214) 630-4571 ext. 1014 or kayla.peltoma@baptiststandard.com.

We work hard to make sure your investment in our ministry touches lives. After all, we’re stewards of the Lord’s resources — time, talent and funds. Because of friends like you, we’re able to produce:

  • The Baptist Standard, the weekly digital news journal
  • BaptistStandard.com, our website and home of the latest news
  • CommonCall, a monthly magazine of inspiring human-interest stories

We have three key funding options that support the expanse of our ministry.

Current Operating Fund
This is our bread and butter, the fund that pays most of our bills. Contributions to the Current Operating Fund enable us to gather and report news, secure and disseminate resources, buy Internet bandwidth, and pay the rent and the phone bill. In short, it enables us to fulfill our ministry.

General Endowment
If you want to make a gift that will keep giving until the Lord returns, consider our General Endowment Fund. The principal of this fund — including your gift — is protected and will not be spent. The interest income it generates, combined with interest on gifts from friends throughout the years, is used to support our ongoing operation.

Standard of Freedom Endowment
Contributions to this fund are being pooled to endow the position of editor of the Baptist Standard. Since 1888, the editor has stood as a sentinel for Baptist freedom, preserving the flow of information to Baptists and other Christians and sustaining their right to understand the people, events and developments that impact their common faith. That’s a role time and technology will not change. This fund will preserve the editorship and its vital role in Baptist life. Gifts may be contributed to the endowment in general or in memory/honor of one of the six most recent editors, listed below.

  • David M. Gardner — 1944-1954
  • E.S. James — 1954-1966
  • John J. Hurt — 1966-1977
  • Presnall H. Wood — 1977-1995
  • Toby Druin — 1996-1998
  • Marv Knox — 1999-present

CommonCall: The Baptist Standard Magazine and the new Baptist Standard digital edition have arrived.

In January 2013, we officially launched CommonCall, our brand-new monthly print magazine, while also converting the Baptist Standard newspaper to an entirely online publication.

It is published bi-weekly, delivered by email and accessed through a browser on computers, tablets or mobile devices.

This privacy policy describes how Baptiststandard.com treats the personally identifiable information that is collected about you by Baptiststandard.com or third party hosting services when you visit Baptiststandard.com. If you have any questions or concerns about these privacy guidelines, please email info@baptiststandard.com .

Any information you provide when you visit web sites other than those covered by this policy (including other affiliated web sites) or when you purchase any products or services that may be offered or advertised on our web site by companies other than Baptiststandard.com is subject to the privacy policies of the third party organizations who run and/or own these web sites. This policy also does not apply to information you may provide to us offline, except as specifically provided herein.

Your IP Address:

An IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer whenever you are surfing the Web. Web servers – the computers that send out Web pages – automatically identify your computer by its IP address. Baptiststandard.com collects IP addresses for the purposes of system administration, to report aggregate information to our advertisers, and to audit the use of our site. Baptiststandard.com does not normally link IP addresses to anything personally identifiable, which means that a user’s session will be logged, but the user remains anonymous to us. We can and will use IP addresses to identify a user when we feel it is necessary to enforce compliance with our rules and policies or terms of service or to protect our service, site, customers or others.

Cookies:

Cookies are pieces of information that a Web site transfers to an individual’s hard drive for record-keeping purposes. Cookies make Web-surfing easier for you by saving your preferences while you’re at a site. Most browsers are initially set up to accept cookies. You can reset your browser to refuse all cookies or indicate when a cookie is being sent. You may occasionally get cookies from our advertisers or from our affiliate sites. Baptiststandard.com does not control these cookies, and they may or may not collect personally identifiable information. The use of advertising cookies sent by third-party servers is standard in the Internet industry. Baptiststandard.com (or third party service providers on our behalf) may also use cookies to collect aggregate information about web site users on an anonymous basis. We may share aggregate demographic and usage information with our prospective and actual business partners, advertisers and other third parties for any business purpose.

Collection of Personally Identifiable Information:

Baptiststandard.com generally collects personally identifiable information when you specifically and knowingly provide us with it. Optional information such as your age or gender may also be requested.

Baptiststandard.com uses this information to provide you with the service you have requested. If you subscribe to Baptiststandard.com, we may use your email address to send you a confirmation notice and your mailing address to deliver the paper.

If you seek to access Baptiststandard.com’s features online, you may be asked to complete a registration form, and to furnish us information concerning your age, gender, education, income, zip code and whether or not you subscribe to Baptiststandard.com or the print edition. We use this information to understand usage of the site and to send you emails with information or offers we think may be of interest.

We may also use information you provide to serve you ads, and, if you have given your consent for us to do so, to send you emails concerning offers from our partners and other third parties that we think may be of interest to you.

When you conduct e-commerce with an e-commerce affiliate to which our site may be linked, personal information such as your email and home address may be collected by the vendor’s server and made available to us. We do not, however, collect credit card information you may provide to that vendor. We may use the information provided to us on an anonymous aggregated basis for purposes of analyzing traffic and usage.

Electronic Direct Marketing Programs:

Baptiststandard.com does develop and participate in electronic direct marketing to users of Baptiststandard.com who elect to receive electronic mail of specific interest to them. Baptiststandard.com does not forward the names or addresses (electronic or otherwise) to third parties. Advertisers who participate in Baptiststandard.com’s electronic direct marketing programs identify the category of subscribers who would most likely be interested in their goods and services. Baptiststandard.com then forwards the advertisements to subscribers who have elected to receive that category of electronic mail. Users may elect to not receive similar electronic mail by requesting that the email address be removed from the mailing list by selecting the appropriate option included with each email advertisement sent by Baptiststandard.com. In addition, users may elect to be removed from such lists at any time by sending a message to info@baptiststandard.com.
