Around the State: Baylor recognized as one of South’s most beautiful campuses

Southern Living Magazine named Baylor University among the South’s most beautiful college campuses. The magazine particularly mentioned the Burleson Quad, the Armstrong Browning Library and McLane Stadium. Southern Living recognized 21 universities, and Baylor was the only Texas school named one of the South’s most beautiful campuses.

Peter Dysert, program director and chief of pathology at Baylor University Medical Center, joined Jim Denison, founding president of the Denison Forum on Truth and Culture, for a public discussion at Dallas Baptist University about advances in genetic medicine and its ethical implications. The presentation was part of the DBU Institute for Global Engagement’s leadership lecture series.

East Texas Baptist University welcomed Larry and Charlotte Slone of Marshall and Joe Hogue of Marshall into the P.G. Whaley Bronze Circle of the ETBU Founders Society. Membership in the ETBU Founders Society is reserved for individuals who have contributed at least $100,000 to the university throughout their lifetime. ETBU President Blair Blackburn presented the Slones and Hogue bronze medallions during a ceremony at the first ETBU Tigers home football game Sept. 23.

During the Encounter Week fall revival at Howard Payne University, guest speaker Zack Randles, founder and lead pastor of Waterfront Church in Washington, D.C., challenged students to move forward in their faith and maintain momentum in their pursuit of Christ-like living. Nick Gainey from Crosspoint Community Church in Rockwall and his band led in worship.

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption named Baylor University one of the nation’s top adoption-friendly workplaces. The foundation surveyed employers in search of those with the best adoption benefits, comparing financial reimbursement and paid leave given to new adoptive parents. Baylor ranked No. 2 in the education industry and tied for No. 89 overall in the United States. In April, Baylor implemented expansive new policies that provide paid parental leave for staff and an adoption assistance program that benefits both staff and faculty.
