Around the State: Investiture of HSU president; DBU summer graduation

eric bruntmyer 150Eric Bruntmyer Eric Bruntmyer formally will mark the beginning of his tenure as Hardin-Simmons University’s 16th president at an investiture ceremony Sept. 1 at 9:30 a.m. in Behrens Auditorium on the Hardin-Simmons campus. During the ceremony, Bruntmyer will receive the symbols his office, including the university mace and presidential medallion.  Bruntmyer took office on June 1, succeeding Lanny Hall. Dallas Baptist University awarded 203 degrees during its summer commencement, held for the first time in Pilgrim Chapel on the university campus. Bertrain Bailey, senior pastor of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, delivered the keynote address. DBU conferred an honorary doctorate upon Barbara Pedersen, a longtime public school educator, DBU adjunct instructor and pastor’s wife. The DBU Women’s Auxiliary board presented her with the Ruth Award in 2007, and the university’s College of Education named her a Distinguished Alumna in 2010. She and her husband, Herb, live in Midlothian, where he is pastor of Longbranch Community Baptist Church.
