Around the State: African American conference set

The African American Fellowship Conference will be held July 8-10 at Great Commission Baptist Church in Fort Worth. The meeting is a multifaceted training event introducing ministry resources provided by Texas Baptists in a context unique, encouraging and enriching to the African American Church.

Buckner Children and Family Services will present a free foster care and adoption information meeting July 17 at 7 p.m. at 5200 Buckner Blvd. in Dallas. Participants will receive an overview of foster care and adoption options in Texas, including foster-to-adopt, Waiting Texas Children and domestic infant adoption programs. Dallas Baptist University will launch a cohort in pursuit of a doctor of education in educational leadership this fall. Applications for enrollment will be accepted through July. The 60-hour program allows students to complete their doctorate in less than three years. Upon completion, students are prepared to serve as leaders of educational, ministry, community and professional organizations. Students choose from three concentration areas—higher education, ministry leadership and general leadership. For more information, call (214) 333-6875.

Daresa Voss, professor of education at Howard Payne University, has written Gavriel and Giselle: Anilange, a book dedicated to disaster survivors. The book is designed to bring comfort to children, parents, teachers and communities following any tragic event. It is intended for second- and third-grade audiences.
