Around the State: Engage conference set

The Engage: Evangelizing Texas Conference for the Dallas area will be held April 3 at Mimosa Lane Baptist Church in Mesquite. There is no fee for the conference that will begin at 8:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided for $10. Lunch reservations and payment will be handled at check-in.

Alexander Ogorodnikov, longtime Russian religious dissident and ogorodnikovAlexander OgorodnikovGulag survivor, will speak on “My Experiences as a Religious Dissident in Russia”  March 28 at 1:30p.m. at Baylor University’s  Michael Bourdeaux Research Center, Carroll Library, Room 316. The talk is sponsored by the Keston Center for Religion, Politics, and Society.

Cindy McClenagan, dean of the School of Languages and Literature at Wayland Baptist University, received an award for American literature from the Conference of College Teachers of English for her paper “Picture Stories in Zora Neale Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God.” She presented the paper at the organization’s annual meeting, and it will be published later this year.
