ETBU receives historic downtown Marshall hotel. Owners of the Marshall Grand—the eight-story former Hotel Marshall located on the Harrison County Courthouse square—donated the historic property to East Texas Baptist University. Jerry and Judy Cargill and Richard and Christina Anderson donated the building, appraised at $3.2 million, which they had helped renovate 10 years ago. The Hotel Marshall, built in 1929, stood vacant and decaying for a quarter-century before the extensive renovation. It has been operating as an events center, restaurant and meeting facility since 2007. ETBU graduate programs eventually will be housed in the downtown building.

Five Texas Baptist schools receive ‘military friendly’ honors. Schools make the list by offering scholarships and discounts, veterans’ clubs, military credit and other services to those who served. The latest list of Military Friendly Schools was compiled through research and a data-driven survey of more than 10,000 schools nationwide.
