In Touch: Military chaplaincy scholarship

image_pdfimage_print

Hello, Texas Baptists! I had the privilege of attending an endowed scholarship luncheon at Truett Seminary .

My friend, former Air Force Chaplain Newt Cole, has established a scholarship at Truett to support students preparing for a career as a military chaplain. hardage david130David HardageThe student recipient was there to thank the Cole family. It was a blessing for everyone. I pray more Texas Baptists will consider establishing permanent funds to support Baptist causes about which they have strong convictions. If you would like to have a conversation about this, please contact the Texas Baptist Missions Foundation at (214) 828-5343.

Please join me in praying for San Antonio Baptist Association as they begin their search for a new director of missions following the death of Charles Price. I attended his funeral service at First Baptist Church  of San Antonio, and it was a beautiful tribute. An endowed fund in Charles’ name has been established to support continuing education for future directors of missions. I encourage you to make a donation by sending your contribution to the Baptist General Convention of Texas, Attn: Bill Arnold, 333 N. Washington Ave., Dallas 75246.

Filling in at the pulpit

Thanks to Interim Pastor Alan Brock for allowing me to fill the pulpit of the Western Hills Baptist Church in Wichita Falls. I was so blessed. Every Sunday in the morning worship service, this church family pauses to pray for the lost of Texas. Amen!

Thanks to Genoa Goad, director of missions for Tri-County Baptist Association, for the kind invitation to preach at their associational annual meeting held at First Baptist Church  of Breckenridge, where Jason Martin is the pastor. It was a great afternoon and evening.

Honoring Paul Powell

Truett Seminary recently honored Paul Powell, former dean, with a special chapel service. He did a great job preaching and sharing about his life in the ministry. I was glad to be present to support a faithful Texas Baptist leader and a friend.

For many years now, Don Wilkey has diligently served as the pastor at First Baptist Church  of Onalaska. I was honored to preach in their Sunday morning and evening services. He is a man of integrity and loyalty. And a “few” years ago, he was Kathleen’s youth minister at First Baptist Church of Cleburne.
