An (un)Apologetic conference will be held Dec. 5-6 at Oakland Heights Baptist Church in Longview. The Baptist General Convention of Texas-sponsored event will feature Mike Licona, Sammy Lopez and Jeph Holloway. Before Nov. 24, registration is $25 for adults and $15 for students. The lectures undergird the mission of the university by encouraging students to see themselves as kingdom citizens whose calling is to serve Christ through their respective vocations.

Howard Payne University’s art department is soliciting entries for the “Above and Below I-10: Cross-Country Art” exhibition. All contemporary artists are encouraged to submit up to three entries prior to the Jan. 15 deadline. Artwork should reflect the themes of landscape, traveling and transportation, but all two-dimensional abstract realism artwork will be accepted. For entry guidelines and procedures, click here. The exhibition will be held in Feb. 9 to March 27.

Baylor University honored several people with awards during homecoming activities. Michael Brandt and Derek Haas were named alumni of the year. Katie Norris was named the young alumna of the year. Jim and Jamie Loker received the Pro Ecclesia Medal of Service. Will Davis Sr. received the Pro Texana Medal of Service. Bob Pryor received the Medal of Service for Contributions to Medicine and Health Care. John Lee Hancock received the Medal of Service for Contributions to Media and Arts. The W.R. White Meritorious Service was presented to Pearl Beverly. Clyde Hart received the Distinguished Achievement Award. The Baylor Founders Medal was presented to Gale and Connie Galloway.

Beverly Price and Rebekah Sorrels have received the Gary and Diane Heavin Servant Leadership Award, which recognizes University of Mary Hardin-Baylor students who have committed time and energy to ministry and community service while attending the school. The honor includes a $1,000 cash award for each student, both of whom donated a portion of their award to Hope for the Hungry, an interdenominational ministry that assists children worldwide.

Dove Award-winner Jamie Grace will perform at First Baptist Church in McKinney Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. The concert will benefit Mission Regan, an organization that collects surplus medical supplies, medicine and equipment and provides them to the poor worldwide. David Hardage, executive director of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, will be the guest speaker at Gambrell Street Baptist Church in Fort Worth Nov. 16 as the church begins a series of special events that will lead up to the church’s centennial in November 2015. A luncheon will follow Hardage’s sermon. Jim Spivey is interim pastor.
